1. Who we are
Catalyst is an initiative of the Institute 4 Discipleship, a ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific, delivered in partnership with Avondale University. In this policy, "Catalyst", "we", "us" and "our" refer to the Catalyst team.
We respect your privacy and handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and, for people in New Zealand, the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ).
2. What we collect
We only collect what we need. Depending on how you use the site, that can include:
- The Purpose Test: the answers you type or choose, your email address (so we can send you your result), and the result itself (your archetype and clarity stage).
- Booking a call: your name, email, phone number (if you give it), your answers to a few short questions, and the time you choose.
- Newsletter: your email address.
- Contacting us: anything you choose to include when you email us.
- Automatically: basic technical information such as your browser, device, pages visited and approximate location, plus cookie data described in section 8.
3. How we use it
- To give you your Purpose Test result.
- To arrange, confirm and remind you about calls you book with our team.
- To send you updates about Catalyst, such as intake dates, if you asked for them.
- To answer your questions.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it, including measuring our advertising.
- To keep the site secure and meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. The Purpose Test and AI
The Purpose Test uses an artificial intelligence service (OpenAI) to reflect on your answers and write your result. Your answers are sent to that service for this purpose only. Please avoid including sensitive details you would not want processed this way, such as health information. The result is a reflection to help you think, not a professional assessment.
5. Who we share it with
We share information only with trusted providers who help us run the site and the program, and only as much as they need. These include:
- Supabase (our database, hosted in Sydney, Australia)
- Vercel (website hosting)
- OpenAI (the Purpose Test, see section 4)
- Our email delivery provider (to send confirmations, reminders and updates)
- Zoom and our team's calendar services (to set up the calls you book)
- Meta (to measure our advertising, see section 8)
- Google Analytics (to understand how the site is used, see section 8)
When you apply or enrol, you do so on Avondale University's website, and Avondale's own privacy policy applies to the information you give them. We may also share information within the Catalyst team and the Institute 4 Discipleship to support you, or where the law requires it.
6. Storage and overseas providers
Our main database is stored in Australia. Some of the providers above are based overseas (mainly in the United States), so some of your information may be processed outside Australia and New Zealand. We choose providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to ours.
7. Emails and unsubscribing
We only send updates if you signed up for them or booked a call with us. Every update email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to stop at any time. Emails about a call you booked, such as confirmations and reminders, are part of the service you asked for.
8. Cookies and advertising measurement
The site uses cookies and similar technologies to work properly and to understand how people find and use it. We may use Google Analytics to see which pages people visit and which steps they take (for example starting the Purpose Test or booking a call), and the Meta Pixel and Meta's Conversions API to measure the results of our ads on Facebook and Instagram, for example whether someone who saw an ad later booked a call. You can control cookies in your browser settings, opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on, and manage ad preferences in your Meta account.
9. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only while we need it for the purposes above, then delete or de-identify it. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
10. Your choices and rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us at info@bethecatalyst.org.au and we will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days.
11. Keeping it secure
We use reputable, secure providers, encrypted connections, and access controls so that only authorised team members can see your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share with us.
12. Children
This site is intended for adults and young adults. It is not designed for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we will remove it.
13. Questions and complaints
If you have a question or a concern about how we handle your information, please contact us first at info@bethecatalyst.org.au. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) or, in New Zealand, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Please also read our Terms & Conditions.
